History

50 years of the Wine Country Century Ride

The first Wine Country Century, then called the Santa Rosa Challenge Ride, was held on Saturday, May 5, 1973. It was a cool but sunny first Saturday in May with a breeze out of the west. About 100 cyclists started from the Sonoma County Administration Center parking lot and rode the single 100-mile route out to the coast and back. Except for 2020 and 2021, the event has been held every year since, making 2024 the 50th running. It became the Wine Country Century in 1983 and has grown to be one of the most popular organized bike rides in Northern California. Please join us to find out why!
